QRIS Resource Guide

South Carolina

The ABC Quality  program’s mission is to make quality child care more available and affordable to parents, and to increase the quality of care for all children in the state. The ABC  Quality QRIS helps providers voluntarily achieve higher standards of quality in caring for the children and families they serve.  Approximately 60% of all regulated providers choose to be rated in ABC Quality.   The ABC  Quality program is a vital component of a continuum of services provided by the Division of Early Care and Education.

Standards and Criteria

South Carolina Incorporates Health and Nutrition Standards in the ABC Quality Center Standards

The ABC Quality Center Standards at all levels now include new nutrition and physical activities standards. ABC Quality has partnered with the SC Department of Health and Environmental Control (SC DHEC) for several years to develop these standards as ABC’s response to the growing state and national concern about childhood obesity. South Carolina’s initiative is entitled ABC Grow Healthy. It is defined by policies and activities that promote children’s health and well-being through healthy foods served and assuring that children are physically active.
